As you may have read on the news. Donald Trump has won the Election. Project 2025 will come into full swing and all hell is going to break loose. People will die, facism will rear it’s ugly head in the US and a theocratic dictatorship will take grip of the country as democracy makes its final gasps as it is swiftly overturned by the republican majority in the senate and the house.
And in the meantime, trans people and other minorities in the US will suffer greatly, healthcare will be stripped from them. Legal protections taken away, and more.
It’s not a good picture.
Even across the pond in the UK we will be affected. Christofacist money will come flooding across. Anti Trans Activists will start being emboldened greater than before. For example, the Reform party and Kemi Badenoch and her culture war obsession. And with Labour floundering and becoming more unpopular by the day. the next election projected with a conservative victory, the right may get the same wins as the US, here in the next UK.
It’s easy to look at this and just want to give up. To call in the towel. But we need to do the opposite. Already I can see burnout across the multiple organisations I have been working with. We are all so overstretched. So much happening, we have so much happening on all fronts. And we somehow need to fight harder and coordinate better.
Even writing this, the path is not clear on how to move forward. But we have to. The path is dark and it may be a path of futility. But we need to make the lives of those wishing to stop us from existing as hard as possible. As Erin Reed put it. We are not just fighting for our rights any more, we are fighting for the future trans people. As we have always been here, before recorded history, and we aren’t going anywhere.
In congress, there is now, for the first time in history a trans person in congress. Representative Zoeey Zephr has kept her seat in Montana. Trans people are still forging victories and we will continue forging them despite the odds. We are the underdog but my god we do a good job of punching above our weight.
There are doubtless going to be calls of action in the future and we can tackle them when they come. But as the news is still fresh, we just need to look after each other.
We will keep making podcasts, We will keep reporting, and we will keep fighting. We won’t be going away. We will be working with those in our community who are still fighting. And we will still hope things will get better, Because what else is there?
